Laser printers have a number of advantages over the rival inkjet technology. They produce much better quality black text documents than inkjets, and they tend to be designed more for the long haul – that is, they turn out more pages per month at a lower cost per page than inkjets. So, if it’s an office workhorse that’s required, the laser printer may be the best option. Another factor of importance to both the home and business user is the handling of envelopes, card and other non-regular media, where lasers once again have the edge over inkjets. …continue reading Should you go with laser cartridge printer or inkjet printer?
History of laser cartridge printers
In 1938, Chester Carlson invented a dry printing process called electrophotography commonly called a Xerox, the foundation technology for laser printers, and that is why sometimes we still call copying Xeroxing.
The first commercialized laser printer called EARS was developed at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center beginning in 1969 and completed in November, 1971. Xerox Engineer, Gary Starkweather adapted Xerox copier technology adding a laser beam to it to come up with the laser printer. According to Xerox, “The Xerox 9700 Electronic Printing System, the first xerographic laser printer product, was released in 1977. The 9700, a direct descendent from the original PARC “EARS” printer which pioneered in laser scanning optics, character generation electronics, and page-formatting software, was the first product on the market to be enabled by PARC research.” …continue reading History of laser cartridge printers
Inverntion of inkjet printer
In 1977, Canon claims to have invented what it terms “bubble jet” technology in 1977, when a researcher accidentally touched an ink-filled syringe with a hot soldering iron. The heat forced a drop of ink out of the needle and so began the development of a new printing method.
In 1988, HP developed first home use ink jet printer, the ink jet starts to coming to ordinary households. The price for that ink cartridge printer was $1000. …continue reading Inverntion of inkjet printer
Story about laser printer
In the 1980s, dot-matrix and laser printers were pre-dominant, The laser printer was introduced by Hewlett-Packard in 1984, based on technology developed by Canon. It worked in a similar way to a copier, the difference being the light source. With a copier a page is scanned with a bright light, while with a laser printer the light source is a laser. After that the process is much the same, with the light creating an electrostatic image of the page onto a charged photoreceptor, which in turn attracts toner in the shape of an electrostatic charge. …continue reading Story about laser printer
